04. 01. 2016 Student Sponsorship Programme has once again obtained a 100% IEB Matric pass rate living up to its ethos of developing leaders through academic excellence. The programme recruits grade 6 scholars from previously disadvantaged areas around Johannesburg, Pretoria, East London, Grahamstown and Somerset West. This year, there were 189 Student Sponsorship Programme scholars in the programme of which 26 sat for the IEB matric examinations.
SSP maintained its track record of a 100% pass rate with the additional achievement that 98% of all candidates passed at the Bachelor Degree level, the highest category of pass. The SSP candidates who wrote the IEB examinations achieved a total of 37 subject distinctions, 65 subject B symbols and no subject failures. 85% candidates achieved A, B or averages across all their subjects and over 50% of our scholars achieved an A or B average across their subjects.
The programme’s top IEB Matric achiever, Nthabiseng Xashimba attended St. Martin’s School. She achieved 7 subject distinctions achieving an A aggregate in all her subjects. Her distinctions are in English, Afrikaans, Mathematics, Life Science, Physical Science, Dramatic Arts and Life Orientation. Another top achiever is Benedict Mahlangu who attended St. Sthithians Boy’s College. Benedict obtained 5 subject distinctions in IsiZulu, Mathematics, History, Visual Arts and Life Orientation. He achieved 2 B symbols in English and Physical Sciences and an overall A aggregate.
