January 2026 marked a powerful and purposeful start to the year at SSP, as the organisation strengthened its mission of expanding access to opportunity and academic excellence.

SSP proudly welcomed Future Nations as a new partner school and re-engaged with former partner schools, reinforcing long-standing relationships rooted in shared values and a collective commitment to learner success. For the SSP team, January was a period of celebration, growth, and renewed purpose.

Honouring Excellence on the International Day of Education

On 24 January 2026, in celebration of the International Day of Education, SSP honoured its cohort of scholars at a special prize-giving ceremony. The achievements of the scholars were exceptional, with an impressive 88 distinctions across all grades, reflecting both the dedication of the learners and the unwavering support of educators and families.

Although there was no graduating class this year, the depth and long-term impact of SSP’s work were powerfully reflected in the ceremony’s keynote address.

A Story of Impact and Gratitude

The keynote address was delivered by Ms Palesa Gule, whose son, Siza Gule, is a testament to the transformative ripple effect of opportunity.

Ms Gule shared her journey through the SSP scholarship application process in 2019/2020, which was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Through referrals facilitated by SSP, Siza was later admitted to St John’s College under the Centenary Scholarship.

Throughout his high school career, Siza excelled academically, culturally, and in sport. He served as Head of School in 2025, achieved outstanding matric results, and has since secured admission to Harvard University, where he will commence his studies later this year.

Reflecting on this journey, Ms Gule said:

“I just want to extend a big word of gratitude for having taken us through the scholarship application process which eventually led to a Centenary Scholarship at St John’s College. Had it not been through SSP, perhaps we wouldn’t have been at St John’s College. For that, we are immensely grateful.”

Her words served as a powerful reminder of SSP’s enduring mission — creating pathways that change lives, families, and futures.

Welcoming the Grade Eight Class of 2026

SSP also proudly welcomed 27 new Grade 8 scholars in 2026. These learners have been placed across SSP’s partner schools, marking the beginning of a shared journey that will extend through to 2030.

As SSP looks ahead, the organisation remains committed to nurturing potential, strengthening partnerships, and ensuring that every scholar is equipped to thrive — not only in the classroom, but far beyond it.
