Leadership in Business: Inside the 2026 SSP Career Conference

On Saturday, 30 May, SSP scholars gathered for the 2026 Career Conference, held under the theme “Leadership in Business: Building Your Seat at the Table.” The day-long session brought together scholars from across SSP’s Partner Schools, community youth educational centers like Phakamani Young Minds for an honest look at what it actually takes to lead with confidence, purpose, and impact in the business world.
The Conference is part of SSP’s broader Leadership Programme, which runs alongside the academic scholarship to make sure scholars leave school not only qualified, but ready. This year’s sessions moved beyond theory, pairing an interactive keynote delivered by Teresa Clarke, a panel discussion surfacing varied professional experiences in technology, corporate communications, advertising, management consulting, a career workshop facilitated by University of Johannesburg and informal mentoring conversations. The objective of the career conference was to provide practical guidance on the kind of decisions scholars will soon be facing: what to study, how to network, and how to confidently walk into rooms, boardrooms included — where they haven’t always seen people who look like them or share similar lived experiences.
