HyperionDev expands digital skills training in South Africa to address critical youth unemployment and tech skills gap

HyperionDev, a global leader in human-led tech education founded in South Africa, today announced the expansion of its coding and data bootcamps to align with national priorities on youth employment and digital skills development.

South Africa’s economy continues to face a dual challenge: persistently high youth unemployment and a growing shortage of digitally skilled workers. According to Statistics South Africa, the unemployment rate for those aged 15–34 was 46.4% in Q1 2025, while nearly three in ten young South Africans are classified as NEET (Not in Employment, Education or Training). At the same time, employers in critical sectors such as finance, telecommunications, and digital services report difficulty sourcing talent with up-to-date technical skills.

The government’s National Digital and Future Skills Strategy and National Development Plan 2030 both identify digital skills development as essential to inclusive growth and competitiveness. HyperionDev’s expansion directly complements these policy goals by offering outcomes-verified, accessible training pathways that transition learners into employment in high-demand fields.

The new bootcamps, delivered both online and in-person, cover Software Engineering, Data Science, and Web Development. Each programme is supported by one-on-one mentorship from industry professionals and culminates in a job-ready portfolio of projects.

HyperionDev’s outcomes data underscores the potential impact of this expansion. According to its 2024 Graduate Impact Report, 88% of graduates secured a new tech job within six months of completing their bootcamp, while 85.6% transitioned into careers directly in the tech industry. Graduates also reported a median salary increase of 178% after completing their training, with many employed by leading organisations such as Google, Vodacom, Absa, and Accenture. These results demonstrate how outcomes-verified, human-led education can help address South Africa’s skills gap.
